Russia (37.4 trillion cubic meters), Iran (32.1 trillion cubic meters), and Qatar (24.7 trillion cubic meters) top the list of countries by natural gas proven reserves.

The Kazakh Ministry explained such a huge difference in data.

“This discrepancy between the data is caused by both a high share of associated petroleum gas in Kazakhstan’s gas reserves and differences in methods for calculating reserves. Kazakhstan plans to shift to international standards soon in this issue,” the Ministry of Energy said in a statement.

Earlier, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC QazaqGaz Sanzhar Zharkeshov and Chairman of the Board of PJSC Gazprom Alexey Miller signed agreements on organization of transportation of Russian natural gas to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan through the territory of Kazakhstan until 2040.
