Kazakhstan has 5 sites suitable for nuclear power plants construction
ASTANA. March 29. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ Kazakhstan has 5 sites suitable for construction of nuclear power plants, Mazhit Sharipov, director of the department for nuclear energy and industry of the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, has said it today.
"Many countries planned to develop their nuclear energy sectors, but after the recent events in Japan, these plans will be, undoubtedly, revised in order to toughen the requirements for the place of construction, construction of the reactors and nuclear power plants' projects," M. Sharipov noted during the conference on "State and prospects of nuclear sector's development in Kazakhstan" held within the Kazakhstan International Industrial Innovation Forum.
In his opinion, the role of the IAEA should be strengthened and international criteria and security norms of the nuclear power stations should be developed, because in case of nuclear accidents, the negative consequences can have a trans-boundary character.
