ASTANA. February 25. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev has received Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili at his Almaty residence today, Kazinform was told by the presidential press service.

The meeting took place on the threshold of the next round of talks on Iran's nuclear program set to be held in Almaty on Tuesday with representatives of five UN Security Council member states, Germany and Iran.

"After feeling the burden of nuclear tests in the not so distant past, Kazakhstan now plays critical role in the issues of global nuclear security," President Nazarbayev noted in the course of the meeting. "By providing a platform for dialogue between the participants of the negotiation process, our country hopes a compromise will be reached and the negotiations will get off the ground eventually.

Mr. Jalili, in his turn, thanked the Kazakh President for an opportunity to conduct the next round of the talks in Almaty and expressed hope for successful outcome.
