Kazakhstan intends to address Afghan issues at OSCE chairman post

KAZINFORM /Daniyar Sikhimbayev/ "Being the chairman of the OSCE in 2010 our country intends to address the issue of stabilization of Afghanistan - the regional neighbor of the Organization as one of the most important priorities of the OSCE", Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Kairat Umarov has said today in Almaty.

"The long-term security in the OSCE depends on the development of the situation in this country in many respects. 32 OSCE member state are already involved in the process of restoration and stabilization of the situation in Afghanistan. In this context, the OSCE's involvement into the efforts on struggle against the Afghan drug trafficking is of paramount importance. Kazakhstan will focus the activity of the Organization member state on development of particular measures in this sphere. We also plan to hold a special meeting on the drug distribution problems", K.Umarov said.       

"In this regard, the conduction of the OSCE summit in 2010 where the Afghan problem can be one of the main themes gains special topicality. We believe that the summit could become an accelerator of wider support of the regional efforts on struggling the drug trafficking", the Deputy Foreign Minister said.
