Kazakhstan intends to use OSCE potential in settlement of Afghanistan situation: N.Abykayev
MOSCOW. March 27. KAZAINFORM /Arnur Rakhymbekova/ International Conference on Afghanistan sponsored by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization was opened in Moscow.
First Deputy Foreign Minister Nurtai Abykayev headed the Kazakh delegation. Head of the Foreign Ministry of Russia Sergei Lavrov read the welcome of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev to the participants, opening the Conference.
Sergei Lavrov noted that the Afghani drug traffic constitutes a danger to Central Asian countries and Russia. ?We find the efforts of the international coalition on drug traffic combat insufficient?, the Russian Diplomat stressed.
UN Secretary General Pan Gi Mun took part in the conference. He complimented the positive results of the Almaty Conference on Afghanistan in the development of general efforts on stabilization of the situation in this state.
Nurtai Abykayev noted that Afghanistan is Asian partner of the OSCE. ?The organization could participate in the settlement of the problem. Kazakhstan intends to actively involve it in neutralization of the threats, coming form the territory of Afghanistan within its chairmanship in the OSCE. We are ready to render necessary material and technical assistance in realization of the project on development of the OSCE Frontier College in Tajikistan and the OSCE Training Center on preparation of customs specialists?, the Kazakh Diplomat said.
The Kazakh First Deputy Foreign Minister noted that the CICA could contribute to the settlement of the Situation in Afghanistan through practical realization of the Activity Plan on combating new challenges and threats in Asia as well.
