Maulen Ashimbayev, Kazakh Senate Speaker and head of the Secretary of the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, took part in the conference ‘Merging views: unification of spiritual leaders for planetary rebirth’ in Abu Dhabi, UAE, Kazinform Agency correspondent reports. 

The Kazakh Senate Speaker noted Kazakhstan fully supports the UAE’s initiative to engage leaders of world religions in discussing the climate agenda.

Our country was among the first to ratify the Paris agreement. We gradually pursue the policy aimed at gradual reduction of carbon footprint and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, said Ashimbayev.

He went on to add that the Central Asian region is experiencing the impact of global warming.

The Kazakh Senate Speaker noted Astana has been hosting the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions since 2003. According to him, the Congress has significantly contributed to the strengthening and development of religious dialogue.

Kazakhstan is an active participant of interreligious and intercultural dialogue. We believe that spiritual leaders need to play an important role in finding answers to global challenges, he said.

In conclusion, Ashimbayev noted that when united world spiritual leaders can contribute greatly to addressing existential challenges facing humanity, including climate, poverty and inequality challenges, fight against extremism and cessation of conflict.
