Kazakhstan not to introduce quarantine for measles
Kazakhstan is not planning to introduce restrictive measures for measles, according to the ministry of healthcare, Kazinform News Agency reports.
Measles is a vaccine preventable disease. For this reason no restrictive measures were introduced till present and we do not plan to introduce them. We keep the situation under control, Zaure Akhmetova, deputy chairperson of the sanitary-epidemiological control committee, said.
She said Kazakhstan records surge in measles cases, mainly among children.
The disease is called an epidemic when it affects most of the population and has socio-economic consequences, which allows to introduce restrictive measures and prohibit public events.
As reported , more than 600 children in Kazakhstan underwent planned immunization [against measles - edit], which is 84% of all children aged from 1 to 6 subject to vaccination. 63,000 people underwent emergency vaccination.
