Kazakhstan officially bids to join World Boxing
Kazakhstan officially bids to join World Boxing. This decision is directly linked to the Olympic future of domestic boxers, Kazinform News Agency refers to the press service of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federation.
“As a result of long discussions and analysis, Kazakhstan’s Boxing Federation took an important decision. The issue of preserving boxing in the Olympic program is being discussed at the level of IOC. We are ready to cooperate with all countries to keep boxing as an Olympic sport. We believe that this decision will influence further development of boxing. At the meeting with Gennady Golovkin, the Chairman of the World Boxing Olympic Commission and President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan, we addressed the prospects for the development of domestic boxing,” President of the Kazakhstan Boxing Federaiton Shakhmurat Mutalip said.
World Boxing is the International Boxing Federation established in April 2023. Currently it unites national federations from 44 countries of the world.
As reported, President of Kazakhstan’s National Olympic Committee Gennady Golovkin has been appointed today the Chair of the World Boxing Federation’s new Olympic Commission.
In February 2024, Gennady Golovkin was elected the President of Kazakhstan’s National Olympic Committee.
Later, in May, he was appointed a member of Olympism 365 Commission of the International Olympic Committee.
