Kazakhstan, OSCE strengthen cooperation in media freedom
The Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to International Organizations in Vienna, Mukhtar Tileuberdi, met with the newly appointed OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Jan Braathu, the press service of the Kazakh MFA reported Jan 27.

The parties discussed the state and prospects for the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OSCE in the field of protection and promotion of media freedom, as well as aspects of improving the effectiveness of joint actions of participating states in this area.
The Ambassador noted that Kazakhstan attaches special importance to the observance of the adopted principles and commitments to ensure freedom of expression and freedom of the media.
He expressed his appreciation for the expert recommendations developed by the Office of the Representative to the draft law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Mass Media”, as well as recommendations in the field of ensuring the safety of journalists.
Jan Braathu, in turn, thanked the Kazakh side for supporting his candidacy and expressed readiness to further strengthen co-operation with our country in promoting media freedom.
At the 31st OSCE Ministerial Council’s (MC) meeting in Malta, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtleu, reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to multilateral efforts aimed at ensuring peace and stability within the OSCE region and the country’s readiness to continue contributing to the strengthening of the Organization and addressing the challenges it is facing.
