Kazakhstan plays leading role in prohibition of nuclear weapons: UN Deputy Sec-Gen Tokayev

ASTANA. November 29. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev received the UN Deputy Secretary General Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev on Thursday (November 29) in Astana, according to the presidential press service.

Relevant issues and prospects of further deepening of the UN-Kazakh cooperation were high on the agenda at the meeting.

The Head of State emphasized it was crucial to solve global conflicts through negotiations and the UN played the key role in that respect.

K. Tokayev, in his turn, briefed the Kazakh Leader on the activities of the UN Conference on Disarmament and noted Kazakhstan's leading role in the process of prohibition of nuclear weapons and reduction of nuclear arsenals.

The UN Deputy Secretary General also extended congratulations to Nursultan Nazarbayev on the decision of the IBE to let Astana host the international specialized exhibition EXPO-2017.
