Kazakhstan produced about 18 000 tons of uranium in 2010

ASTANA. March 29. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ In 2010 Kazakhstan produced 17 700 tons of uranium. Mazhit Sharipov, director of nuclear power and industry department at the Kazakh Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, said at a conference on the prospects of Kazakhstan's nuclear power industry development.

"Our goal is to sell high value-added uranium products. Thus, we should pass from the sale of uranium raw material to the sale of nuclear fuel," Sharipov noted.

He told about the plans on development of uranium processing industry in Kazakhstan, particularly on production of uranium hexafluoride and fuel assemblies.

The conference is held within the framework of the Kazakhstan Industrial Innovation Forum that opened at 'Korme' exhibition complex in Astana. It will last for three days.
