Kazakh Energy Minister Almassadam Satkaliyev attended the first ministerial meeting of the IAEA World Fusion Group in Rome, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the Energy Ministry of Kazakhstan.

The meeting discussed the key tasks and challenges facing the world community in nuclear fusion energy development, including financing, technology, human resources and legal regulation.

Delivering his report, Kazakh Energy Minister Satkaliyev highlighted the importance of nuclear fusion energy, which can be a solution to global energy challenges, including climate change, depletion of traditional resources and access of future generations to clean energy, in the future.

According to him, development of nuclear fusion energy provides Kazakhstan a unique opportunity to build a safe and sustainable future.

We believe that nuclear fusion energy requires collective effort and mutual support in the international arena. Nuclear fusion technologies create unique challenges, which necessitate consolidation of scientific and technological knowledge, resources and political will, said Satkaliyev.

The minister said that Kazakhstan actively supports scientific studies and developments in nuclear fusion and already contributed significantly to the development of international scientific facilities. In particular, a major achievement in this direction was creation of the unique experimental complex on the basis of the Kazakh Tokamak for Material studies (KTM) at the National Nuclear Center in Kurchatov. The KTM facility serves as the basis to form a sound technological base for future fusion energy.

We urge all of those present to continue and expand interaction with research organizations such as the National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan, ITER and make sure that more countries and partners are involved in this process, he said.

The Kazakh energy minister said that the country will always be open to international collaborations and is ready to provide access to its experimental facilities.

We’re ready to create a global nuclear fusion laboratory on the basis of the Kazakh Tokamak for Material studies, added the minister.
