Kazakhstan ratifies optional protocol to UN International Pact on civil and political rights

KAZINFORM /Bauyrzhan Mukanov/ ?Ratification of the optional protocol to the International pact on civil and political rights opens the citizens of Kazakhstan the possibility to address complaints to the UN Human Rights Committee?, official representative of the Kazakh Foreign Ministry Yerzhan Ashikbayev has said today at a briefing in Astana, Kazinform reports.

To date Kazakhstan has recognized the competence of the UN Committee against Torture, the UN Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination and the UN Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women as well. The Law ?On ratification of the optional protocol to the International Pact on civil and political rights as of December 16, 1966? was signed by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on February 11, 2009.
