Kazakhstan ready to actively participate in UN reform

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of strengthening international security and stability at the meeting of the heads of Central Asian states and the Chancellor of Germany in Astana, Kazinform News Agency has learnt from the Akorda press service.

The President highlighted that issues of security-building and stability must be in the focus of attention against the backdrop of the complex geopolitical situation. 

He stressed that states must continue providing unwavering support to the endeavors of the United Nations in combating terrorism, extremism, illegal migration and climate change, peacekeeping and disarmament. According to Tokayev, Kazakhstan is ready to play an instrumental role in the UN reform process. A number of developed countries, most notably Germany, are eminently suited to occupy the position of permanent members of the UN Security Council.

The President of Kazakhstan also took the opportunity to extend his best wishes to the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting its bid for the position of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2027-2028. He expressed confidence that Kyrgyzstan would be able to make a significant contribution to the strengthening of stability and security in Central Asia and beyond.

Then the Head of State noted that all proposals presented today would be incorporated into the Joint Declaration to be adopted by the countries.

Following the summit, the Joint Declaration on Cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Federal Republic of Germany was signed.

Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev also addressed the summit.
