Kazakhstan receives 500,000 doses of MMR vaccine

The first batch of measles, mumps & rubella (MMR) vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India in the amount of 500,000 doses has arrived in Almaty on Thursday, Kazinform News Agency cites the ministry of healthcare.

As reported, healthcare authorities of Kazakhstan announced emergency response measures to stabilize the epidemiological situation on measles in the country. Chief sanitary doctor decreed to carry out additional immunization in children against measles, rubella and parotitis irrespective of their immunization status.

The ministry of healthcare has already purchased more than 1.5 million doses of the vaccine.

Kazakhstan, like many countries, observes an unfavorable epidemiological situation related to surge in measles cases this year.

Measles is one of the most contagious viral infections posing a threat to those unvaccinated.

To prevent further spread of the disease, on November 6, 2023 the ministry of healthcare launched additional mass immunization in infants at 6 to 11 months and children aged 2 to 5 years irrespective of their immunization status, medical workers aged under 55 and persons under 18 who missed vaccination.

The ministry reminds that under the National Immunization Timeline, measles vaccine is inoculated twice: at the age of 12-15 months and at the age of 6.
