Kazakhstan repatriates $600mln of illegally appropriated assets from abroad

Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov revealed Thursday the exact amount of illegally acquired assets repatriated by Kazakhstan from abroad, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Prime Minister Smailov said on the margins of the Senate sitting that about 1 trillion tenge worth of assets, including $600 million hidden abroad, has so far been returned to Kazakhstan.

According to the Kazakh Premier, the work on recouping the illegally appropriated assets is done in strict compliance with the law on return of illegally acquired assets.

Recall that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law on repatriation of illegally acquired assets from abroad this July.
