Kazakhstan, Russia to launch research satellite

ALMATY. KAZINFORM - Today, Chairperson of the Committee for Social and Cultural Development under the Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Kazakh Parliament) Ms Dariga Nazarbayeva has paid a fam visit to the National Research Laboratory of Information and Space Technologies of the K.Satpayev Kazakh National Technical University in Almaty.

At the laboratory she familiarized with the implementation of national space research programs.

"We were instructed to develop national space industry together with Russia. Our delegation met with the Lavochkin Science and Production Association in Moscow and signed a contract on the launch of the Politech-1 research satellite. The satellite will tentatively be launched in late 2014. It will help us carry out research of the Earth's magnetic field to make accurate weather forecasts and study climate events," Director of the High Technologies and Sustainable Development Institute of the K.Satpayev Kazakh National Technical University Mr. Serik Kumekov said.
