Kazakhstan, Russia to maintain security in Central Asia: Russian FM

During a lecture at the Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana, Lavrov stressed: "Security threats for the Central Asian region are coming not only from the Middle East. The situation in Afghanistan also raises concern."
"This is why the maintenance of peace and security in Central Asia in close cooperation with our Kazakhstani partners is of paramount importance. We will continue to develop the regional security system and interact within the Collective Security Treaty Organization, the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," Sergey Lavrov added.
"Counterterrorism and fight against trans-border crime, illicit drug trafficking, incitement of ethnic, inter-faith and social hatred are in the focus of our attention," the Russian Foreign Minister concluded.
