Kazakhstan's chairmanship in OSCE discussed in Brussels

The event is dedicated to a weekly OSCE training organized by the European Commission for the Kazakh delegation within the framework of the agreements earlier reached between Astana and Brussels.
Opening the roundtable, Kazakh Ambassador to the EU, NATO, Belgium and Luxembourg Yerik Utembayev emphasized timeliness of the dialog on activation and specification of effective interaction of Kazakhstan as future OSCE chairman with the EU, NATO and their member-states. "Our meeting is aimed at the interaction discussion in all three dimensions at the wide area from Vancouver to Vladivostok, because a consensus within the Organization's framework and joint activities with other institutions and countries are necessary for solution of contemporary challenges and threats to the world and security", he said.
Defining the issues, which are on the OSCE agenda, in the linkage of Kazakhstan's interaction with the EU and NATO, the head of the Kazakh diplomatic mission called the European side for active cooperation through implementation of specific mutually beneficial projects.
The event participants, in their turn, expressed their opinions on our country's role in the contemporary international issues.
The NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia Robert Simmons told about the results of the NATO Foreign Ministers' meeting held on December 4, noting that Kazakhstan takes part in cooperation development in the format of the Euro-Atlantic Partnership and makes great contribution to Afghanistan's rehabilitation, improving strengthening of the regional and international security.
Member of the European parliament Struan Stevenson highly appraised Kazakhstan's efforts directed to protection and restoration of ecology and environment.
The Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities delivered a speech dedicated to the RU and OSCE interaction on all three dimensions of the Organization - military-political, economic-environmental and human.
Belgian Senator Paul Wille, the authoritative expert in ecology and world economy, delivered a speech as Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). "Kazakhstan's mission is connected with the difficult period - the global financial crisis", P.Wille emphasized. In this connection he highly appraised the Kazakh President's ideas stated in the article "The fifth way". "This article touched me. The balanced approach points out not only the way to reforms and modernization of the financial policy, but it unites this direction with the main vectors of the progressive and social way", the Senator said.
Speeches of Ambassador-at-large of the Kazakh MFA Dulat Kuanyshev and Chairman of the Religious Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Justice Ardak Doszhan were added by the discussions on the OSCE Economic and Environmental and Humanitarian Affairs.
