ASTANA. March 5. KAZINFORM The first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan will be located most likely in Aktau, Valery Shevelev, managing director for innovative projects of JSC "NAC" Kazatomprom" told a briefing of the Central Communications Service on Monday.

"A political decision has been reached to build the station. Most likely, this will be the first station in the city of Aktau, Mangystau region, since personnel and infrastructure remained there," V.Shevelev said.

According to him, an international tender will be announced to build the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan. All proposals will be considered with the assistance of experts.

As reported earlier, at the enlarged meeting of the Government on January 23 Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev instructed Kazatomprom to analyze the energy balance and within six months to make proposals on the construction site of the future plant, Kazinform refers to the Kazakh PM's site.

The National Atomic Company "Kazatomprom" is the national operator of Kazakhstan on the import and export of uranium, rare metals, nuclear fuel for nuclear power plants, special equipment, technologies and dual-use materials.

Kazatomprom's mission is to pursue industrial and technological policy of Kazakhstan, aimed at developing competitiveness of the country's industrial complex in the domestic and foreign markets.

100% of shares belong to the state represented by the National Welfare Fund "Samruk-Kazyna".
