Kazakhstan's key priorities to preserve relevance for CSTO

ASTANA. May 18. KAZINFORM Kazakh parliamentarians headed by Majilis Speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin took part in the session of the Interparliamentary Assembly Council of the CIS member states held in St. Petersburg.

The meeting of the SES parliament heads, the 37th plenary meeting of the CIS IPA and the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly session were held on May 17.

Speaking on the CSTO main guidelines Kazakh Majilis Speaker N. Nigmatulin mentioned Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, who chairs the CSTO this year, outlined the key priorities for the country within the CSTO for the next year.

The CSTO members named information space protection, development of the collective reaction forces, the CSTO Central Asian airspace collective defense, the CSTO antinarcotics strategy formation, "Astana-the rock city" test site  capabilities development as the key priorities of Kazakhstan's chairmanship.

All these priorities are of long term character and will be relevant after Kazakhstan completes its chairmanship in the CSTO. It was stressed that the CSTO parliamentarians could render legal assistance to the priorities mentioned in the medium term.
