Kazakhstan's population estimated at 17 187 000 people

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - The current population of the Republic of Kazakhstan is estimated to be about 17 187 000 people as of February 1, 2014, according to Chairman of the Kazakh Agency for Statistics Mr. Alikhan Smailov.

The urban population makes up about 9 464 300 people (or 55%) and rural population makes up about 7 722 700 people (45%). "The population increased for 252 900 people or by 1.5% from the last record of population in February 2013," A. Smailov added. The birth rate in Kazakhstan has slumped - down 6.9% in 2014 from 2013. 33 700 births were registered in January 2014.
