Kazakhstan's population expected to reach 18.7 million by 2020
ASTANA. April 2. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan's population is expected to reach 18.7 million by 2020, Chairman of the Statistics Agency Alikhan Smailov stated during the Governmental Hour in the Majilis.
Smailov noted that over the past 20 years Kazakhstan saw great changes in population size. The Government adopted various measures to encourage birthrate, reduce mortality, regulate migration flows, including the annual increase in quotas for oralmans (repatriates). As a result, the population of the country on January 1, 2012 amounted to 16.675 million people and increased in comparison with the beginning of 2000 by 10.6 percent or by 1.773 million people.
