Kazakhstan's population is up, makes about 17 mln

ASTANA. March 14. KAZINFORM The population in Kazakhstan as of 1 February 2013 has amounted to 16 934 100 people.

Chairman of the Agency for Statistics Alikhan Smailov told a briefing in Astana on Thursday.

The urban population accounted for about 9 278 700 people (54.8%), whereas rural population made 7 655 400 people (45.2%). In his words, the population in the country has increased for approximately 22 200 people or 0.13% since January 2013.

In comparison with analogous period in 2012, the number of Kazakhstani residents has gone up by about 1.4% or 236 thousand people.
