Kazakhstan's SCO chairmanship to promote Organization's ten-year achievements: SCO Sec Gen Muratbek Imanaliyev
Summit devoted to the 10th anniversary of the Organization's foundation scheduled for June 2011 in Astana. Secretary General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Muratbek Imanaliyev told a Kazinform correspondent about it.
What are your expectations from the Summit in Dushanbe? What specific agreements do you expect to be signed there?
Traditionally, the issues of development of trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation will be at the center of the oncoming Summit in Dushanbe on November 25. The sides will sum up the results of the work conducted during the past year and define further priorities of interaction.
The SCO Secretariat has prepared a report on the process of implementation of the Program of Multilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation of the SCO Member States that would be presented in Dushanbe. Besides, a range of decisions regarding organizational and financial activity of the permanently functioning SCO institutions is planned to be made.
Our country is presiding in the SCO. What do you expect from Kazakhstan's chairmanship?
It is an honorable and responsible mission for Kazakhstan to chair the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in its jubilee year. As earlier reported, culmination of Kazakhstan's presidency will be the SCO Heads of State Summit devoted to the 10th anniversary of the Organization's foundation scheduled for June 20111 in Astana.
During this period the Organization member states have made great strides in different spheres. The Organization and its permanent institutions conducted consistent work aimed at realization of tasks set by the leaders of six countries on security and stability provision, promotion of social and economic development of our countries and humanitarian cooperation.
I believe, Kazakhstan's SCO chairmanship will consolidate the achievements of the Organization reached in ten years, a historically short period . This will create favorable conditions for further development of our countries.
Recently you have met with the Deputy Executive Director of the CICA Secretariat K.Tumysh. Can you tell about the results of the meeting? How do you esteem the prospects for cooperation of the SCO and the CICA?
At the meeting with K.Tumysh we had a thorough exchange of views on cooperation between the SCO and the CICA. I and my interlocutor emphasized the coincidence of principles, goals and tasks of the two organizations. The CICA makes positive and significant contribution to strengthening stability and security in the region. I believe, the cooperation between the SCO and the CICA has great perspectives.
You have taken part in the 19thUrumqi Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Fair. What is the value of this Fair for trade-economic cooperation of the SCO member states?
Within the framework of the Urumqi Fair we held the Day of the SCO, the Forum on Regional Economic Cooperation Development and the Seminar of SCO Interbank Association on financial cooperation and regional economic development. The SCO Secretariat was the co-organizer of the event, attended by over 400 people - representatives of the economic departments, business communities, leading companies and enterprises from over 25 countries.
This event attracted attention of the whole region and was another evidence of the growing authority of the SCO and its role in activating the economic cooperation in the region.
The Urumqi Fair became a complex international trade-economic event in the west region of China. I believe, Xinjiang will play more active role in activation of trade, economic and humanitarian interaction in the future.
The OSCE Heads of State Summit will be held in Astana in December. How do you assess the prospects for cooperation between the OSCE and the SCO?
Firstly, I would like to emphasize the role of the OSCE in security strengthening and creating favorable social and economic conditions for further stable development of the Euro-Atlantic and Eurasian geo-strategic spaces.
The chairmanship of Kazakhstan - the first Central Asian state heading this Organization - contributes significantly to the further promotion of its image.
Taking into consideration the similarity of goals and tasks of our organizations, we can see importance of the regular contacts between the SCO and the OSCE.
Thank you for the interview!
