Kazakhstan's Tamerlan Bashikov wins IMG Golf Academy's Junior Open 2012
A field of 48 students of the IMG Leadbetter Golf Academies, representing 20 countries competed in the tournament's varying age groups. Bashikov and seven other junior golfers played at the championship caliber Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota Golf Club. The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota boasts an award winning Tom Fazio design and has been home to several USGA and PGA tournaments, the press release of the Kazakh Embassy in Washington reads.
At the completion of nine rounds in rainy weather, Bashikov was declared the winner with a total score of 25, followed by China's Cindy Xou and Czech Republic's Karel Slavicek with 26 points, and Arjay Howard of the USA scoring 27. Tamerlan's elder brother, Didar Bashikov, 14, also competed in the Junior Group tournament and finished with 45 points.
This is the second year of IMG's Kazakhstan Junior Open. At the tournament's award ceremony, Bashikov and the other winners were presented with Kazakh national souvenirs and coins.
