Kazakhstan suffers defeat against Canada at Winter University Games in Torino
Kazakhstan's men's ice hockey team was upset in the match against Team Canada at the Torino 2025 FISU World University Games in Italy, Kazinform News Agency cites Sports.kz.
The match between Kazakhstan and Canada was decided by a shootout with Canada with latter ultimately emerging victorious with a score of 3:4. Despite dominating the Canadian team throughout the match, the Kazakh side ultimately conceded two goals within the last twenty seconds. Thus, the match ended with a score of 4:3 in favor of the Canadian squad.
Kazakhstan’s ice hockey players, who scored the goals, included Andrei Buyalsky (22nd minute), Ivan Gavrilenko (36th minute), and Maxim Musorov (44th minute).
Simon Lavigne (10th minute), Colson Gengenbach (60th minute), and Conor Frenette (60th minute) scored for Canada.
Defeating the national hockey teams of Sweden (9:2) and South Korea (7:1) earlier, Kazakhstan suffered its first defeat at the tournament.
Showing a remarkable performance, Kazakhstan’s goalkeeper Jelal-ad-Din Amirbekov, successfully deflected a total of 54 shots during the match.
Kazakhstan climbed to the second place in Group A with seven points. The Czech Republic is leading the table with 8 points, while Canada holds the third spot.
