Kazakhstan, Thailand conclude agreement on economic cooperation

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov of Kazakhstan and Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai of Thailand discussed the prospects for investment and trade and economic cooperation, Kazinform News Agency cites the Kazakh government.

The meeting discussed the key issues of bilateral relations regarding promotion of trade, tourism and sport cooperation as well as prospects for implementing joint investment projects and boosting Kazakhstani exports.

In 2023, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Thailand stood at $367mln. The sides considered the possibility of expanding the names of agricultural products Kazakhstan exports to Thailand. In particular, Kazakhstan seeks to export meat, vegetables and fruits, crops, flour products, vegetable oil, and so on.

Upon the Head of State’s instruction, the national commodity distribution system with the necessary infrastructure to store and distribute agricultural products is being developed. This will create necessary conditions to form an agricultural hub in our country. Deepening the cooperation between Kazakhstan and Thailand will be mutual beneficial and promising in thie regard, said Bektenov, highlighting the great potential Kazakhstan and Thailand have in the implementation of the relevant investment projects.

For his part, Phumtham Wechayachai expressed confidence in greater trade and economic ties between Thailand and Kazakhstan.

This morning, an economic cooperation agreement was signed. I believe that this document will contribute to greater cooperation in different areas, including trade, economy and investment, said the Thai Deputy Prime Minister.

During the meeting, the positive dynamics in the promotion of relations in tourism, including granting a visa-free regime for Kazakhstani nationals by the Thai government. Opening of a Consular office in Phuket is set to ensure Kazakhstanis staying in Thailand receive all necessary assistance.

In addition, the possibility of utilizing Kazakhstan’s transit potential within the development of the Trans-Caspian Route was discussed.

Following the meeting, the sides expressed their intention to deepen economic cooperation between the countries.
