Kazakhstan plans to boost transit of goods from Southeast Asia through the Kazakh-Chinese terminal in Lianyungang seaport to the European and Central Asian markets? Vice Minister of Transport of Kazakhstan Talgat Lastayev said at the 1st International Transport Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Taking the floor, Talgat Lastayev said that Kazakhstan concentrates huge efforts on development of the potential of transport transit and modernization. The shortest route from Europe to the Central Asian region, China and Southeast Asia runs through Kazakhstan. 13 international corridors - five railroad and eight highways - pass through the territory of Kazakhstan.

According to him, the implementation of Darbaza-Maktaaral railway line project will be completed until 2025. Together with Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan works on the project of repair of Zhizak-Irzhar railroad line and opening a new checkpoint at the Irzhar station. This project is important for Mazar-i-Sharif-Kabul-Peshawar corridor, said Lastayev.

Besides, Kazakhstan discusses the issues of mutually beneficial cooperation with the countries of Southeast Asia. The country plans to boost transit of goods from Southeast Asia to the markets of Europe and Central Asia through the Kazakh-Chinese terminal in Lianyungang seaport.

The integration of Lianyungang with Aktau seaport and improvement of the Trans-Caspian Corridor will give a positive impulse to the trade between Europe and Asia. As transport sector becomes multimodal, the East-West multimodal transport communication can play an important role in the future. Our region is a key one connecting Europe and East Asia. It is also an important region for China’s One Belt, One Road and Europe’s Global Gateway initiatives, noted Talgat Lastayev.

As reported, a memorandum of understanding on creation and development of the Belarus – Russia – Kazakhstan – Uzbekistan – Afghanistan – Pakistan international transport corridor was signed on the sidelines of the forum.
