The Semey Ormany nature reserve started removing the burned trees, Kazakh Ecology and Natural Resources Minister Yerlan Nyssanbayev said.

In 2023 the Ministry set up an emergency headquarters involving representatives of the territorial forestry and wildlife inspection, experts of the Semey Ormany nature reserve, administration of Abai region, and law enforcement agencies. The corresponding roadmap for the elimination of the consequences of the wildfires was adopted. According to the foresters, insects are attacking trees that have been ravaged by wildfire. To prevent the spread of insect outbreaks and rescue the rest healthy trees it is necessary to remove the fire-damaged trees up to 6 million cubic meters, the Minister told the Government Hour at the Majilis.

He said 80% of burnt trees are raw fuel material. It is crucial to build a burnt timber cycling plant. The Minister stressed four companies have showed interest in the project.
