Kazakhstan to build new railroad lines

Kazakhstan is set to build over 1,000 kilometers of new railroad lines in the nearest three years. They are Dostyk-Moiynty, Bakhty-Ayagoz and a railway line bypassing Almaty. This is what prime minister Alikhan Smailov said at the government’s weekly meeting on Monday, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to him, railway is one of the key areas of Kazakhstan’s transport sector, and entire economy.

You know Kazakhstan is located in the centre of the continent, at the intersection of many international transport routes. Transit transportations through Kazakhstan, between Asia and Europe,  keep rising. For instance, last year, the volume of railway freight transportations between Kazakhstan and China exceeded 23mln tons, he said.

In his words, this indicator has increased by 22% in 2023. Amid rapidly growing volumes of transportations, we need to work on infrastructure improvement and rolling stock renovation, he added.
