Kazakhstan to commission 18mln m² of housing by yearend

The volume of construction works in Kazakhstan amounted to 6.9 trillion tenge in 11 months of 2024, which is 10.3% more compared to the same period in 2023. Minister of Industry and Construction Kanat Sharlapaev said it at the Government’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, Kazinform News Agency reports.

According to him, a record volume of housing - 18 million square meters - is set to be commissioned countrywide by the end of 2024. 16.3 million square meters were commissioned in November, and another 1.7 million square meters will be commissioned by the end of December.

He said the ministry launched unprecedented measures to boost housing construction in the country.

“As many as 965 billion tenge have been envisaged for this purpose from all sources, which will let us build 41,000 new apartments for more than 160,000 citizens,” the minister said adding that special attention is given to the issue of providing affordable tools to the vulnerable groups of population.

He added that as many as 330 billion tenge is envisaged for the purchase of more than 22,000 rental apartments as part of governmental support. 7,861 low-interest mortgage loans to the amount of 94.5 billion tenge were issued. 33 billion tenge was allocated for the construction of engineering networks.

Last month, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law amending legislative acts on reforming the country's housing policy. The law provides for better mechanisms of state support to citizens, kandas (resettlers) to improve housing conditions.
