Kazakhstan to implement 'clean development mechanism' after Kyoto Protocol ratification

sp; UST KAMENOGORSK. November 13. KAZINFORM. /Lyudmila Malko/ The environment is one of the priority issues in Kazakhstan's policy. It will be discussed at the forthcoming UN session. Kazakh President N. Nazarbayev has said it during the live broadcast in Astana on Friday.

The issue of industrial emissions in large cities was touched upon by a moderator of the President's live dialogue with the nation.

"We ratified the Kyoto Protocol to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change", the President said.

The problem of air pollution exists in Ust Kamenogorsk, Balkhash, Temirtau, Atyrau and Almaty. Thus the Head of the State noted that the greening process is very urgent in Kazakhstan.

He noted that implementation of clean technologies should be controlled by the environmental institutes. Signing the Kyoto Protocol Kazakhstan agrees to implement all mechanisms of 'clean development'.
