Kazakhstan to increase areas under socially significant crops

The country is planning to increase the area under socially significant and high-margin crops during the current sowing season, Kazakh agriculture minister Aidarbek Saparov said, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports. 

This year, it is planned to plant wheat on an area of 13.3mln ha, reducing by 429.2 thousand ha (13.7mln ha in 2023). So, the area under socially significant and high-margin crops will be increased, said Kazakh agriculture minister Saparov, during a government session.

According to the minister, there are plans to increase the area of oilseeds by 385.7 thousand ha to a total of up to 3.2mln ha, as well as the area under sunflower by 60 thou ha to 1.2mln ha.

The country plans to raise the area under sugar beet by 12 thousand ha, with the sugar beet planted area totaling 25 thousand ha.

The country also plans to bring the areas of forage crops to 3.2mln ha this year, added the minister.
