Kazakhstan to launch first coal-chemical complex

During his official visit to the People's Republic of China, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, participated in a Kazakh-Chinese investment roundtable with business representatives, Kazinform News Agency has learned from the Kazakh Government.

Negotiations with Premier of the 14th State Council of the People's Republic of China Li Qiang are scheduled to take place in Shanghai. Additionally, Olzhas Bektenov is scheduled to visit the China International Import Expo (CIIE 2024) at the National Exhibition and Convention Center.

The principal objective of the working visit is to implement the agreements reached between the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping, with the aim of doubling the volume of bilateral trade turnover from last year's historical record of $41 billion.

The roundtable meeting was attended by representatives of a number of companies, including leaders from the metallurgical, energy, machine-building and automotive industries, as well as from the fields of carbon chemistry, agro-industrial complex, pharmaceuticals and more. The Kazakh delegation was represented by the heads of relevant ministries and of a number of large domestic enterprises.

To date, approximately 5,000 joint ventures with China are successfully operating in Kazakhstan.

Notable joint Kazakh-Chinese projects include the construction of a soda ash plant in collaboration with Camc Engineering, the Innovation Complex Sastobe in partnership with the Tianjin Cement Industry Design and Research Institute, and an explosives plant in conjunction with the Yunnan Industrial Explosive Group.

The construction of a plant for the production of CHANGAN, HAVAL, and CHERY vehicles with a capacity of 90,000 units based on small-unit assembly is nearing completion.

Additionally, an agreement has been reached with Geely, Exeed, and KAIYI regarding the investment and production of cars, with a total investment of $150 million and the creation of 1,000 jobs.

Olzhas Bektenov has stated that joint work in this direction continues.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of industrial development for the country, and encouraged Chinese companies to form closer partnerships with the Kazakh business community.
