Kazakhstan to open women-led police stations countrywide
Women’s police stations will be opened in all cities of Kazakhstan soon. This is what Majilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov said at the Dialogue of Women of Central Asia international conference held in Astana today, Kazinform News Agency reports.
According to him, the number of women protection officers has doubled in Kazakhstan in the past two years.
In some cases, only women can understand women. Therefore we introduced the position of women investigators to investigate into the crimes of violence against women and minors, said Koshanov.
In his words, 280 women investigators are working across Kazakhstan to date.
For the first time, Kazakhstan launched a pilot project on establishment of a women’s police station with only women working there. The victims may freely come to a police station and ask for protection. We plan to expand this experiment across the country, added the Majilis Speaker.
He also stated the importance of fighting both against the consequences of violence and work for its prevention.
