Kazakhstan to overcome global financial crisis and reach economic progress: ECO Sec Gen
TEHRAN. January 8. KAZINFORM. The other day President of the Institute for Economic Research under the Kazakh Ministry of Economy and Budget Planning S. Nugurbekov met with Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization Khurshid Anwar in Tehran. The meeting was organized under the auspices of Kazakhstan's embassy in Iran, Kazinform reports.
Issues of cooperation between the Institute and the ECO, namely Kazakhstan?s participation in implementation of market projects on assessment of the economic development and domestic goods markets, on technical-economic study within the ECO were considered at the meeting.
The parties reached an agreement on participation of the ECO Sec Gen in the work of the oncoming II Astana Economic Summit initiated by President Nursultan Nazarbayev. One more agreement regards holding of a special meeting of the ministers of economy and heads of economic and scientific-research institutions of the ECO member states within the frame of the abovementioned summit.
According to S. Nugurbekov, large international organizations like the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank, the Islamic Development Bank, the USAID and the UN Economic Commission for Europe expressed great interest in the forum.
In turn, Mr. Anwar expressed readiness to take part in the II Astana Economic Summit and supported the idea on holding the meeting of economy ministers of the ECO member state which ?will be efficient for further development and strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation within the organization?.
The SecGen noted that due to forward-looking policy of Nursultan Nazarbayev Kazakhstan has become a leader in the Central Asian region and has reached great progress in the economic sphere. In this connection he expressed confidence that the republic would overcome the global financial crisis.
