Kazakhstan to participate in railroad construction in Afghanistan
Kazakhstani companies seek to supply railway tracks and other products for the railway sector of Afghanistan, Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov said, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.
According to Kaliakparov, Kazakhstan’s railroad tracks and ties suppliers are to participate in the project as part of the North-South international transport corridor, providing for construction of one of the first railway sections near Herat Province. ‘The country seeks to supply materials at the initial stage,’ he said on the sidelines of the 6th International Conference ‘Transport and Logistics Market’ and the 1st International Forum on the development of air cargo transport GLOBAL AVIA DAY in Astana.
According to him, one of the Kazakhstani companies is already engaged in construction of railway sections in Afghanistan.
Kazakhstan’s company Integra already built a railroad between Afghanistan and Iran at the expense of Afghanistan, said the Kazakh vice minister.
The amount of investment Kazakhstan is willing to invest in the project in Afghanistan is yet to be revealed, as Kaliakparov stressed that talks and preparation of design and estimate documentation are underway.
Earlier it was reported that Kazakhstan eyes construction of over 1,000km of railways before 2027.
