Kazakhstan to raise salaries of university lecturers and researchers
At the November 2022 meeting with the students and young scholars in Almaty, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set a task to raise salaries of university lecturers and researchers. The President emphasized that university lecturers should be the leading figure of the education system, Kazinform News Agency reports.
In line with the President’s instruction, the Concept of Kazakhstan’s Higher Education and Science Development for 2023-2029 has been amended.
The amendments aim at improving the quality of higher education and efficiency of scientific researches.
Thus, university faculty’s salary has been raised from 160,700 tenge to 350,000 tenge. As for national universities, salaries were increased from 228,800 tenge to 400,000 tenge, the press service of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science says.
Salaries of the research organizations' staff were increased by 18% from January 1, 2023 and by 18% - from January 2024. From January 2025, researchers’ wages will rise by 17%.
On May 6, 2024, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed the law amending some legislative acts on science development. As per the law, the lecturers holding degrees and academic titles will receive monthly fringe benefits ranging from 25 MCI or 92,300 tenge (MCI – monthly calculation index. 1 MCI in 2024 is 3,692 tenge) to 50 MCI or 184,600 tenge.
