Kazakhstan to set up 5 seismic stations

Five seismic stations will be set up in Kazakhstan in 2024-2025, Kazinform News Agency quotes the Kazakh Science and Higher Education Ministry.

Under the memorandum of understanding between the National Scientific Center of Seismic Observations and Research and the Xinjiang Earthquake Agency, five seismic stations will be established in the territory of Kazakhstan. The Institute of Geophysics of China Earthquake Administration will provide financing. Besides, the central seismic observatory Almaty will be renovated.

An international meeting on earthquake predictions will be held in July. The Kazakh seismic observation center scientists will also attend the meeting organized by the Xinjiang Earthquake Agency. On June 22-July 1 three young specialists of the center will complete an internship at the Institute of Geophysics, China Earthquake Administration.

The development of the project on assessment of seismic risks in the countries of Central Asia started with the assistance of representatives of the U.S. Embassy and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the Ministry said in a statement. Seismic risk assessment courses will be held as part of the development of the project.
