Kazakhstan to treat children with congenital heart defects for the first time ever
ALMATY. March 3. KAZINFORM /Aigul Turysbekova/ "The first-ever neonatal centre with cardiac surgery unit to treat congenital heart defects in newborns will open in Almaty," head of the city healthcare department Yerkin Durumbetov told a roundtable.
"It was planned this year to put into operation a perinatal centre. But the decision was made to redirect it to the neonatal centre for there are many babies are born with congenital heart diseases. We send such children to Russia. There are 2 706 children so far. 66 % of them are diagnosed cerebral palsy," he added.
