Kazakhstan to use experience of Dubai, Singapore, Tianjin in building new city

A governmental meeting chaired by Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov discussed today the implementation of the project on building a new city  in Almaty region between Almaty and Konayev cities, Kazinform News Agency reports.

As per the plan, the new city named Alatau must become a point of attraction of domestic and foreign investments, an international business hub operating based on high world standards.

The city will be built based on the experience of Dubai, Singapore, Tianjin and other large cities.

The development of the city of Alatau will let boost trade and investment interaction with China and Central Asian states, launch a number of new production and commercial projects, implement best practices in various spheres and sectors. The city will offer favorable conditions and stimulus for attraction of investments and doing business, including tax and customs preferences.

The opportunity of implementation of a special legal regime, including the AIFC Acting Law in the territory of Alatau will be considered.

As reported earlier, Kazakhstani authorities plan to raise the status of Zhetygen village located in Ili district of Almaty region and make it a city of regional significance. The city will be renamed as Alatau. An appropriate draft presidential decree is available on Otkrytye NPA internet platform.
