The Independence Day is celebrated by all people of Kazakhstan on December 16, Kazinform News Agency reports.

The Independence Day is observed on the 16th of December in accordance with the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the state independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan”. It was on December 16, 1991 that the Supreme Council adopted the law on Kazakhstan’s independence and sovereignty.

It’s been 32 years since the moment the law came into force and since then the independent Kazakhstan has traveled a long way filled with remarkable achievements and daunting challenges. Our country has transformed into a full-fledged democratic state with sustainable state institutions and strong competitive economy. Kazakhstan has fully integrated into the global trade and economic system and has proved to be a reliable partner.

Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev who successfully implements Kazakhstan’s strategic course has repeatedly emphasized that it is a sacred duty of all Kazakhstanis to preserve Independence for the upcoming generations.

President Tokayev stresses that Kazakhstan’s development and prosperity is only in our hands and there is no room for mistake because the fate of the Kazakh people is on the scales of history.

The day of declaration of Independence – December 16 – is also the Remembrance Day reminding us all about the tragic events that took place in December 1986 in Almaty (Jeltoqsan Tragedy) where the Kazakh youth rallied against the policy of USSR dictatorship that infringed their rights and interests.

A myriad of mass events are set to take place today on the occasion of the Independence Day countrywide, including science to practice conferences, photo exhibitions and sports events.
