Kazakhstan, USA keen on further development of bilateral coop - General David Petraeus

ASTANA.  August 13. KAZINFORM /Timur Bekturganov/ President's Aide, Secretary of the Security Council Kairbek Suleimenov has met with Commander of the US Central Command General David Petraeus and Ambassador of the USA to Kazakhstan Richard Hoagland in Akorda Palace today.

The parties exchanged views on the situation in Central Asia as well as the situation in Afghanistan on the threshold of Presidential elections in this country scheduled for Aug 20. General D. Petraeus informed the Kazakh side of the military operations held by the US central Command in Afghanistan today.

In the context of regional security the parties noted importance of realization of the agreements reached earlier in this sphere, positively estimated the results of joint work and expressed intention to support the dialogue.

Necessity of expansion of the bilateral cooperation including in regulation of the Afghan problem was highlighted at the meeting.
