Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan to cooperate in preservation of Ustyurt Plateau wildlife

On the sidelines of the 14th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (COP14) in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of preserving the wildlife of the Ustyurt Plateau, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

According to the Uzbek Ecology Ministry, the memorandum was signed by minister of ecology, environmental protection and climate change of Uzbekistan Aziz Abdukhakimov and deputy minister of ecology and natural resources of Kazakhstan Nurken Shariyev.

The memorandum provides for the establishment of a working group and development of a roadmap of action to ensure preservation of the transboundary populations of wild animals and their migrating species to the Ustyurt Plateau, the Uzbek ministry said.

The ministry noted that the agreement was signed with the aim to carry out the Central Asian countries’ obligation to preserve the transnational site of the World Natural Heritage “The Temperate Turan Deserts”.
