President congratulates Kazakh Team on World Chess Olympiad 2024 silver
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, congratulated the Kazakhstan Women’s Team on the silver medals secured at the World Chess Olympiad 2024, Kazinform News Agency reports.
On his Twitter account the Head of State wished Kazakhstani sportsmen new successes highlighting the outstanding achievements of Kazakhstan’s chess school.
As earlier reported, the Kazakhstani Women’s Team took home silver at the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad in Hungary defeating the strongest chess players from the U.S. and Poland.
India claimed gold in both the Men’s and Women’s Olympiads 2024.
20-year-old IM Bibisara Assaubayeva (2482), 19-year-old IM Meruert Kamalidenova (2352), 18-year-old WIM Xeniya Balabayeva (2335) and WIM Amina Kairbekova (2243), and the youngest on the roster WIM Alua Nurman (2324) defended the country’s colors at the World Chess Olympiad. Notably, 17-year-old Alua Nurman debuted at the Olympiad in Hungary. Kazakhstan won the historic silver medal. In 2022 the Team finished fifth at the 44th World Chess Olympiad in Chennai, 11th at the 43rd FIDE World Chess Olympiad in Batumi in 2018 and 37th at the 42nd Chess Olympiad in Baku in 2016.
Despite their age, huge psychological pressure and a marathon of 11 games the Kazakhstani team became one of the best defeating rivals from 169 countries. I am proud of the Team and grateful to their coaches and parents, president of the Kazakh Chess Federation Timur Turlov said.
