Kazakhstan works to establish international consortium for NPP construction

Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev commented on the construction of a nuclear power plant in the country, Kazinform News Agency correspondent reports.

Addressing the 36th plenary meeting of the Foreign Investors' Council (FIC), President Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan has great potential for developing nuclear energy.

The country is the largest uranium producer with a nearly completed nuclear fuel cycle. As you might know, the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, which is a long-term investment in our energy security, was approved during the recent national referendum. Currently, the work is ongoing to set up an international consortium for this project, said the Kazakh President.

Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev that an international consortium for construction of a nuclear power plant should be established, bringing together leading global companies with advanced technologies, in the country.

To note, 71.12% of Kazakhstanis voted for the construction of a nuclear power plant during the nation-wide referendum on October 6.
