Kazakhstan wows the world with four gold medals at London-2012

ASTANA. August 4. KAZINFORM August 3, 2012 became a historic day for Kazakhstan's national team at the 2012 Summer Olympiad in London.

For the first time ever our team won four gold medals at the Olympic Games, Kazinform has learnt from www.olympiadkhabar.kz .

Kazakhstani athletes won three gold medals in Atlanta in 1996. Pentathlete Alexander Parygin, boxer Vasily Zhirov and Greco-Roman style fighter Yuri Melnichenko took gold.

Kazakhstanis repeated their success in 2000 in Sydney. Boxers Yermakhan Ibraimov and Bekzat Sattarkhanov and track and field athlete Olga Shishigina took home gold medals.

Boxer Bakhtiyar Artayev was the only athlete from Kazakhstan who won gold in 2004 in Athens.

In 2008 Kazakhstan secured two top spots and two gold medals respectively in Beijing thanks to boxer Bakhyt Sarsekbayev and weightlifter Ilya Ilin.

On August 4 Kazakhstan cracked its own record by winning four gold medals at London-2012. The heroes are cyclist Alexander Vinokurov, weightlifters Zulfiya Chinshanlo, Maiya Maneza and Svetlana Podobedova.
