Kazakhstani Andrey Golubev wins ATP award 'Breakthrough of the Year'
ASTANA. November 22. KAZINFORM The award winners were announced by the Association of Tennis Players that are to be awarded by the Association. The award 'Breakthrough of the Year' was given to Kazakh tennis player Andrey Golubev who became the winner of the ATP tournament in Hamburg in July of 2010 and becoming the first tennis player in history of Kazakhstan to have won a tournament of the ATP series, the press service of the Tennis Federation of Kazakhstan informs.
At that tournament Andrey Golubev did not lose a single set defeating everybody on his way to the top including world No 6 Nikolay Davydenko (6-4, 6-4) and in the finals he came out victorious defeating Jürgen Melzer.
In October he successfully played in the tournament in Kuala-Lumpur where he defeated first-seeded Robin Soderling on his way to the finals. He lost in finals to Russian Mikhail Youzhny but it was a tight match and Kazakhstani lost in the tiebreaker of the third set.
Besides, A. Golubev as a member of the Kazakh national team advanced to the Davis Cup World Group where Kazakhstan will have to play against Czech Republic in 2011.
