Kazakhstani film ‘Bratya’ wins top prize at Africa International Film Festival

Kazakhstani film ‘Bratya’ (The Brothers) directed by Darkhan Tulegenov won the Best International Feature Film prize at the 12-м Africa International Film Festival in Lagos, Nigeria, Kazinform News Agency cites the press service of the State Center for the Support of National Cinema.

‘Bratya’ is a project of Golden Man Media belonging to Maksim Akbarov. The film is about a dramatic story of the life of an orphan. Found himself in the criminal world, Akzhol (one of the lead characters) is unaware that he has a brother. Once met, the two brothers begin searching for their father, the press service said in a statement.

Last year, the film won the Spirit of Cinema prize at the Oldenburg International Film Festival, and was named the best drama according to the Association of Film Critics of Kazakhstan.

Besides, Aibar Saly and Alisher Issmailov, playing the lead characters in the film, received the Best New Performer prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Academy.

The Africa International Film Festival was first held in 2010. This year, 100 films were included in the festival’s program out of 2,000. And only 11 films received awards.
